Fantastic musical score... however...
Nosferatu is one of my favorite all time movies. Recently I just read, it was rated by "I can't remember who", but it was a group and they rated it the 21st best movie in cinema history. You won't get me to argue against that!
The musical scoring, the talent and appropriateness of the music was nothing short of fantastic!
I was however, quite disappointed in the tinting and rewriting of the story dialogue. The tinting, in my opinion, especially in the castle scenes, really had a much lighter feel, which I thought ruined the dark, somber and gloomy feel and therefore REALLY changed the tone to almost comic, IN MY OPINION! I did not care for the rewritten dialogue and changing the names. I don't know if the names were changed back to the original or what (since this is a gratis review, I'm not going to make the time to find out). The characters to me,always will and always will be Jonathan and Mina Harker, ?? Westerna (that one doesn't seem quite right ...)Renfield et al.
The print however is very good... just sorry about all the changes. If you want to watch Nosferatu, I suggest checking out a different version. Its a shame the sound track is not on a better example! However there are probably going to be some who like this better! This may well be a more authentic version for all I know, but I think there are much better ones, that do better for the genre of horror!
Any fans of Nosferatu MUST watch "Shadow of the Vampire"! Watch Nosferatu first. "Shadow of the Vampire" is a horror movie about the filming of "Nosferatu" and was actually filmed in some of the locations that "Nosferatu" was filmed. They set up many scenes that LOOK IDENTICAL TO THE ORIGINAL. GREAT MOVIE!! Five stars for "The Shadow of the Vampire"!!
I was going to rate this version three stars, however the musical score raises it to a four. My favorite version "style", is five stars in my book.
